ANDY GRAY EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool, Arsenal, City & Chelsea are good things this weekend but don’t bank on Man United

by Andy Gray | December 4, 2014

Sorry, sorry, sorry. Our weekly dose of Andy has been a little bit less than weekly over the last couple of weeks.

We blame Andy. For some reason, he seems to think sitting on a beach sipping cocktails in Dubai is more important than taking a phone call from us to talk football. The diabolical fiend. Thankfully, from the comfort of his bath tub, he walked us through what looks to be another fascinating round of Premier League matches.

We’re back and better than ever. Well, we’re back at least. We’ll see about the better than ever. Last time out, it was a high scoring draw in tipping terms with both Andy and the most popular bet of the Paddy Power customers getting it right eight times each. The customers even landed a nice little 11/5 treble, something that hasn’t happened to often. It only counts for a point however, which means everybody’s favourite Scotsman called Andy Gray still has a commanding lead. The e-scores on the e-doors are:

Andy Gray 76 – 62 You* (*you plural)

So, in the not quite poetic words of Steven Gerrard, we go again. One point is awarded per correct prediction, regardless of the odds associated with it, to see who is smarter. Well, we probably know who is smarter because none of the Paddy Power customers lost their cushy punditry job for making sexually inappropriate remarks, but we want to see who can give Premier League betting tips. Keep reading for this week’s throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks well thought-out predictions.

Andy’s treble: Manchester City (v Everton), Liverpool (v Sunderland) and Chelsea (v Newcastle) – 5/2

You say: Manchester City (v Everton), Liverpool (v Sunderland) and Chelsea (v Newcastle) – 5/2

Result: Andy 0 You 0

Newcastle v Chelsea
Saturday 12.45pm, BT Sport

Newcastle’s fine run has come to an end, but Chelsea march on relentlessly. Could Alan Pardew upset the apple cart? Probably not, but he’ll still love himself afterwards nonetheless.

Andy says:

  • It’s very hard to find any flaws with Chelsea. Strong all over the pitch.
  • The north-east has been a tricky place for Chelsea in the last couple of years though.
  • On a good day, Newcastle could claim a draw, but Chelsea will win this one

Andy’s bets: Chelsea | Chelsea 2-0 | Eden Hazard 1st Goalscorer
You say: Chelsea | Chelsea 3-1 | Diego Costa 1st Goalscorer

Result: Andy 0 You 0

Hull v West Brom
Saturday 3pm

Two teams that are in freefall after semi-decent starts to the season.

Andy says:

  • I was worried about Hull, but they claimed a good point at Goodison Park and showed lots of spirit
  • Alan Irvine needs to start winning some games, but I’m not sure he can turn it around.
  • They’re in better form so Hull are the bet here.

Andy’s bet
Hull to win

You say:  Hull to win

 Result: Andy 0 You 0

Liverpool v Sunderland
Saturday 3pm, Setanta

Liverpool have walked through a bit of a storm, will they continue the renaissance against the Black Cats?

Andy says:

  • Liverpool were a little bit lucky to beat Leicester. Still not playing well.
  • Sunderland did brilliantly against Chelsea, they need to do it on the road.
  • Liverpool are slowly finding form, they’ll grind out another win.

Andy’s bet:
Liverpool to win | Liverpool 2-1

You say:  Liverpool to win | Liverpool 3-1

Result: Andy 0 You 0

QPR v Burnley
Saturday 3pm

A relegation battle. It’s almost as if it’s worth more than three points. Feels like it should be worth more – possibly between five and seven.

Andy says:

  • QPR’s troubles stem from away form. At home they’re a decent side.
  • Burnley have improved a lot, but QPR will be tough to beat.
  • The fact they’re home gives the Rs the edge.

Andy’s bet
QPR to win

You say:  QPR to win

Result: Andy 1 You 1

Stoke v Arsenal
Saturday 3pm

Arsene Wenger’s least favourite place to visit. Well, maybe second least favourite after Piers Morgan’s living room.

Andy says:

  • Stoke always make life very difficult for Arsenal.
  • Arsenal still struggle to deal with more physical side of things.
  • The Gunners have been edging results and they’ll do it again here.

Andy’s bet
:  Arsenal | Arsenal 1-0

You say:  Arsenal | Arsenal 2-1

Result: Andy 0 You 0

Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Saturday 3pm

It’s a London Derby! Not a very interesting one, but a derby nonetheless!

Andy says:

  • Tottenham are the most difficult team to predict this season. What do we expect?
  • Palace are good at home, but less effective on the road.
  • Spurs will win it.

Andy’s bet
:  Tottenham to win
You say: Tottenham to win

Result: Andy 0 You 0

Manchester City v Everton
Saturday, 5.30pm, Sky Sports 1

The Toffees have been a real bogey side for City over the last few seasons. The form guide suggests they probably won’t be this time around.

Andy says:

  • City have found their form over the last couple of weeks.
  • Everton are still a bit off colour this season. No idea why.
  • City will win comfortably, which I hate saying as an Evertonian.

Andy’s betCity to win | City 3-0 | Aguero 1st Goalscorer
You say: City to win | City 3-1 | Aguero 1st Goalscorer

Result: Andy 1 You 1

West Ham v Swansea
Sunday 1.30pm, Sky Sports 1

It’s a high-flying-plucky-underdogs-face-off at Upton Park. Who’ll fly or bark or bite or whatever a high-flying-plucky-underdog does best?

Andy says:

  • West Ham have been excellent for the last few weeks. Playing good football.
  • Swansea are playing with a real confidence.
  • Gonna be a tight game. Swansea have enough about them to get a point.

Andy’s bet: Draw | 2-2 Draw | Kevin Nolan 1st Goalscorer

You say: West Ham to win | West Ham 2-1 | Wilfried Bony 1st Goalscorer

Result: Andy 0 You 2

Aston Villa v Leicester
Sunday 4pm, Sky Sports 1

It’s Aston Villa’s biggest fear – a home game.

Andy says:

  • Benteke back and scoring his huge for Villa. They could even win at home.
  • Leicester were pretty good against Liverpool, but losing that is very disheartening.
  • Villa will shake off their home stage fright and win

Andy’s betAston Villa to win | Benteke 1st Goalscorer

You say: Aston Villa to win | Benteke 1st Goalscorer

Result: Andy 1 You 1

Southampton v Manchester United
Monday 8pm, Live, Sky Sports 1

United are in great form. Well, it may not actually be great, but it’s better than the Moyes era.

Andy says:

  • Southampton have lost two in a row, but they weren’t that bad across those two games
  • United have racked up the Ws, but the form beneath that is less than rock solid
  • Both teams have issues and I see this as being a score draw

Andy’s betDraw and both teams to score | Wayne Rooney 1st Goalscorer

You say: Manchester United to win | Wayne Rooney 1st Goalscorer

Result: Andy 0 You 1
