Paddy’s Punt: A Boxing Day Lucky 31 to knock the stuffing out of Paddy

The roll 'em up express is about to leave the station. Time to jump aboard ....

by Paddy Power | December 23, 2014

A festive smash up of racing action is on the way on December 26 with top cards in Ireland and Britain and some massive pointers to Cheltenham 2015.

With so many good races on TV it might be best to make as much of it as possible so we’re going to go for a Lucky 31 to get the Christmas expenses as siding with the obvious might be the way to go.

December Fallers 1430

CH4 kick off with STELLAR NOTION (1.25pm) who still looks on a handy mark despite a 9lb rise for winning on his chasing bow.

Over to Wetherby for the Rowland Meyrick where BROADWAY BUFFALO (1.45pm) is obviously well in under a penalty for his facile Haydock victory. The conditions that day were very taxing and it’s possible he’s taken more out of himself than it appears but I’m inclined to think he’ll win.

The Kauto Star Novices’ Chase and Christmas Hurdle should go the way of the favourites also. SAPHIR DU RHEU (2pm) was the best of these over hurdles and looks an accomplished jumper. While Champion Hurdler-elect FAUGHEEN (2.35pm) rates a certainty. The price is short but it’s a better interest rate than the banks offer.

King George VI Chase

For the featured King George VI Chase I’m siding with the favourite SILVINIACO CONTI (3.10pm). With Champagne Fever likely to resent the competition for the lead provided by Cue Card the main danger could well prove to be Dynaste with the better ground a positive for him.

However he couldn’t beat Silviniaco Conti on good ground at Aintree and is unlikely to turn things around here.

The reigning champ looks worth a decent bet for back-to-back King George VI triumphs.
