Matt Chapman: I’m hoping an old mate delivers at 12/1 in the Paddy Power Chase and Hawkes Point swoops at Chepstow

Faugheen the Machine and Silviniaco Conti smashed up Paddy yesterday and I've a couple of big-priced tips lined up today. Yeeehaaa!

I’m as pumped as a pumped thing for Paddy Power Chase day at Leopardstown and Welsh Grand National day at Chepstow.

You hear me Paddy?

In the Emerald Isle all eyes are on the Paddy Power fixture at Leopardstown where Arthur Moore’s BACK OFF MATE (2.55pm) ran well at Navan in the Troytown, is near the foot of the weights and Paddy’s paying the first five places.

British raider Uxizandre takes on Sizing Europe and Ballycasey in the Grade One Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase.

But HIDDEN CYCLONE (1.20pm) deserves a change of luck for ‘Shark’ Hanlon after falling on his last two starts -but he still retains plenty of ability. Hopefully you can then dial up after and see how much you have taken off Paddy! Oh Yes.

The Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton starts the UK action. Despite disappointing at Sandown last time I’ve kept the faith with BALDER SUCCES (1.40pm) who is probably better suited to this track after disappointing at Sandown behind Dodging Bullets.

He’s won here before and trainer Alan King has booked Wayne Hutchinson for the ride and they look a good pairing as they know each other well.

Stays strong

There’s a hugely competitive 3m handicap chase and the one I like is COWARDS CLOSE (2.15pm). He stays strong and has been knocking at the door this season.

He’s dropped 2lb despite a fair third at Cheltenham last time and should, as his name suggests, go close for champion trainer Paul Nicholls and Nick Scholfield.

Despite being a bit high in the handicap LAND OF VIC (2.50pm) should love the conditions in the extended 3m handicap hurdle. The Welsh raider has been improving gradually all season and might pop up here.

I’ve no doubt that GOLDEN DOYEN (1.55pm) is the one to beat at Chepstow after showing a tremendous attitude to score at Cheltenham last time. In defeating Hargam he gave weight that day and he should have every chance of following up for the master Philip Hobbs.

The Welsh National is the highlight in the UK and it’ll come as no surprise that a right old plodder is needed!

The one I like is HAWKES POINT (2.35pm) who is 2lb higher than when second – beaten a head 12 months ago – but who has the excellent Sean Bowen taking off 5lb.

The selection ran well enough behind Rebeccas Choice on the seasonal debut when staying on at one pace and that might prove the perfect prep race 21 days ago. He should be hard to keep out the frame at the very least and be another with every chance for Nicholls.

So best of luck on another monster day of betting. Let’s hear a few Yeeehaaa and hope that Paddy has a shocker.
