The Welsh National is the day’s highlight in the UK and it’s usually a slog in a bog to pick up the prize over 3m 5f.
Monbeg Dude (2.35pm) was a game winner in 2013 when ridden by Paul Carberry and has already put up two big runs this term.
Given this was his main target all season expect him to be cherry ripe and very hard to kick out of the frame.
The juvenile hurdle on the same card sees the tigerish Philip Hobbs’ Golden Doyen (1.55pm) take on the not-so-resolute Kerezak.
If it comes to a battle I’d want Hobbs’ runner in my corner any day and he can beat the Paul Nicholls-trained runner.
Emma Lavelle’s has booked Richie McLernon for Claret Cloak (1.40pm) and he can deliver at Kempton in the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase.
Meanwhile, the high tempo should suit Wings Of Smoke (2.15pm) who is a decent double-digit price in a competitive 3m chase on the same card while Land Of Vic (2.50pm) has an easier assignment than when fifth at Cheltenham on her last run.
We’re sponsoring the day at Leopardstown and our own Paddy Power Chase looks as competitive as usual so were paying 5 places to give everyone a fair crack at it.
