It’s been a decent Christmas period for my blog but you are only as good as your last winner.
Let’s do it all again on Sunday where the Grade One Lexus Chase at Leopardstown takes centre-stage on a monster card in Dublin.
Nicky Henderson’s runner BOBS WORTH (2.55pm) mainly disappointed last season but is the top-rated horse in this contest off 170 and was only beaten four lengths last March in the Blue Riband.
He’s the class act in the field and has won first time out before so the 289-day break may not be a massive issue. Ideally he’d want better ground but it’s a risk worth taking.
Willie Mullins’ UN ATOUT (1.20pm) returns to action after finishing fifth on his chase debut. He made a terrible mistake that day which came after a long lay off. He’s back down in trip to 2m 3f and remains an exciting prospect.
Is Briar Hill the special one?
The Grade One Christmas Hurdle appears wide open. Briar Hill was a top novice but he took a horror fall at Cheltenham and this is a big ask on his seasonal debut. If he wins this – then he’s really special.
AT FISHERS CROSS (1.50pm) is not my favourite horse as his reputation is bigger than his performances. However, the pace of an Irish race might suit him much better than the UK and he does love soft ground. I’m hoping he bounces back to his best for AP and JP!
MAX DYNAMITE (2.05pm) should take all the beating in the Listed Hurdle at Limerick but will be a favourite’s price.
There may be a bit more value to be found with JUMPTOCONCLUSIONS (2.35pm) who looks worth a bet in the handicap hurdle.
He won blinkered first time on his latest start and a 6lb rise is very fair. He can go in again.
