Ah, the new year. A time for shallow promises, pictures of Simon Cowell unnecessarily flaunting his chest rug in odd holiday attire and transfer speculation about who wants Fernando Torres least.
Also, the new Paddy Power marketing budget kicks in and even though the crew in charge of advertising at Power Tower haven’t been seen since early November they’ve somehow managed to rustle up a new TV campaign.
Let’s have a brief recap of our form in this feisty arena.
We’ve had QPR midfielder Joey Barton taser a tea lady…
This was part of our 2013 ‘Ball of Shame’ campaign which was deemed ‘too shocking (arf) for TV’.
…and blind footballers kick a cat into a tree
We thought this had something to offend all, especially Tiddles. In 2010, it was one of the most complained-about ads, but it wasn’t banned. Hooray!
But our first TV campaign still wets the appetite…
In 2009, Paddy enlisted one-time England international Carlton Palmer to interrupt a candle-lit bubble bath.
…while we think this is some of Arsenal’s finest work
At the end of last season, we travelled to Arsenal’s training ground to film this video with internationals Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta and Lukas Podolski as they responded to some ‘mean tweets’ from fans. Yes, Podolski couldn’t hit a barn door.
We have, however, now had enough of lazy footballers
We quite liked this ad, but the fact that even Wayne Rooney looks rather trim these days got us thinking…
[drumroll] It’s Paddy Power’s new ‘Ritual’ TV ad for 2015…’heck of a routine this’
So, there you have it. Hope you like it and, if so, pass it on to your mates. All these Premier League fellas thanking God and praying to the heavens. Don’t they know the man upstairs is a massive Scunthorpe fan?
