For Greyhound fans it’s a huge night at Romford this evening with the highlight being the £5000-to-the-winner Coronation Cup Final. It’s all live on Sky Sports 2 and I think we have every chance of making Paddy lose a few quid – you hear me Paddy?
Let’s get cracking.
A Standard 400m contest, and provided BUBBLY ROCKET traps out in normal style he’ll take all the beating from Trap 1. Runner-up in the Laurels at Belle Vue, Bubbly Rocket has since hosed in a couple of times at Hove.
Another Standard over 400m and a toughie. DOWER MATT (say nothing) has not trapped out well in its last two starts but if the local dog gets out in its best fashion could be hard to beat. It’s Trap 3 for me.
A Stayers’ event over 575m. BLONDE RAZOR has plenty of track form for the champion trainer Mark Wallis and appears to have a great chance of making all from Trap 2. The inside runner often misses the break which should help.
A contest for bitches over 400m AAYAMZAONE has been beaten at 4-7 and 7-4 on her last two starts, but this really is a great opportunity to get a win on the board from Trap 6.
I’ve been lucky enough to commentate on VANROONEY for his last two wins at Towcester and he’s been well suited by a step up in trip. This is the furthest he has gone so far, but he may well build up a big lead and be hard to catch from Trap 5.
The big race of the night in the Coronation Cup Final. Track record holder ADAGEO BOB is brilliant over 575m at Romford, and Trap 5 is no hindrance. He can go from the front or come from behind. The only drawback is he won’t be much of a price.
So I hope you all have a good night. You hear me Paddy?
The greyhounds on Sky Sports kick off 2015 with an interesting puppies’ race featuring a couple of interesting types.
Drawn to perfection in Trap 1 is likely favourite Lenson Ted who has been flying since his unfortunate exit from the Puppy Derby at Wimbledon. According to my spies he left time on the track in his latest trail and will no doubt go close.
The one for me, however, is Trap 6 SEE NO GAMBLE (nb). A repeat of his latest trial of 24.06 should be good enough to win this and with Paddy Power’s fantastic offer at Romford tonight (Money Back 2nd to the SP Fav) he looks the smart bet.
A four-dog race in which even my nan could work out. Trap 4 BURGESS BORNA (nap), to my eye, is head and shoulders above these. She’ll be a good bit odds-on but is undoubtedly the NAP of the meeting. Those looking for a multiple this evening should be making her the cornerstone. Pings out, makes all, winner winner chicken dinner.
Trap 1 Bubbly Rocket is likely to be all the rage for this contest. With around 100 owners he’s likely to be popular enough in the betting but I fancy a shock in this race and Trap 2 ILEWIN ALLOT gets my vote. Trainer by the 2015 Champion Trainer elect Mark Wallis this dog can really fly and will no doubt be a bit of value this evening.
Race four on the Sky card is very open and features a few dogs with interlocking form. Trap 4 GEELO VEGAS can really turn on the style but has had injury problems and that would always worry me. My vote goes to Trap 3 DOWER MATT who for me is the best dog in the race. Missed the break badly the last but has numerous sub-24 second runs around here on his card. A repeat of that will win this in a canter.
Lightning never strikes twice does it? And for that reason Trap 2 BLONDE RAZOR gets our vote here. Beaten last week after being ultra-impressive the week previous, the Razor can bounce back to form and reward his backers by pinging, grabbing the rail and leading from trap to line.
Beaten at odds of 4/7 and 7/4 in her last two starts Trap 6 AAYAMZAONE may not inspire confidence this evening. But she is undoubtedly the class act in this bitches race and it would take a very brave man to oppose her. In both defeats she finished 2nd posting very solid times and she looks the play tonight to beat 5 inferior rivals.
A head-scracthing race to decipher. Trap 5 Vanrooney is the class act over 6 bends but tonight encounters 8 bends and the imponderable is ‘will he stay that far?’
The one who catches my eye at a very backable price is Trap 6 FLAWLESS FLOYD. Proven over the trip he sets a very solid benchmark for the favourite and gets the nod on value grounds.
The one we’ve all been waiting for – The Coronation Cup Final. We’ve been taking on the favourite Trap 5 ADAGEO BOB in our antepost betting and for last week’s semi-final and he keeps biting us on the backside.
We’ve decided to go to the well one more time and have offered a standout industry best price of 5/4 which has caught the eye of the Racing Post’s Pricewise tipster who tipped him up noting the price is ‘massive’. Trap 1 Vanfrenchie would be the danger on the draw but value seekers may prefer our top price about the favourite.
