Matt Chapman: Get ready to put the Champagne on ice for my Sandown banker

These five TV races won't be easy but I'm relishing the chance to relieve Paddy of more dosh. Yeeehaaa!

by Matt Chapman | January 29, 2015

It might be one of the quieter Saturdays with just over a month to the Cheltenham Festival, but there was still winners to be found and I’m excited once again at taking a few quid off Paddy. It just feels so good. You hear me Paddy?

Let’s starts with the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las.

Guaranteed Prices New 1024

A hugely competitive, classy handicap and I like the look of the youngster  A DOLL IN MILAN (2.05pm)With his jockey’s claim only runs off a mark of 123 and carries less than 10st. In the conditions that could be crucial – and he’s shown plenty of talent despite hanging a bit left.

He could be thrown in.

It’s all about class in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown. The one to be on here is without doubt CHAMPAGNE WEST (2.25pm), who has already thrashed big rival Splash of Ginge this season. The selection is really decent who jumps and stays well.

Irish Saint is the big danger, but it’s Johnson and Hobbs for me.

National service

I’m sticking with a confirmed plodder and mud-lark GORGEHOUS LLIEGE (2.40pm) at Ffos Las as trainer Venetia Williams likes to win a National!

Off just 10st 6lb, Gorgehous Lliege has a great chance at the bottom of the weights and was far from disgraced at Plumpton last time.

POLAMCO (3pm) might prefer better ground at Sandown but he’s a tough sort at the right end of the handicap for talented trainer Harry Fry. He’s the improver over 2m 6f  in the field for me.

Finally, it’s the Grade 2 Novices’ chase at Wetherby that should get the go ahead. I like the look of the consistent KAKI DE LA PREE (3.20pm) for Tom Symonds. He ran a fine race behind Gevrey Chambertin last time, and deserves a decent pot.

So best of luck once again and let’s take Paddy’s money. Yeeehaaa!
