What many of us were expecting to be a sad goodbye to a former UFC heavyweight champion turned out more like a welcome back party in Porto Alegre, Brazil last night. Riding a four fight losing streak coming in to this fight Frank Mir looked a man past his prime, despite being just 35, cashing in on his name value to pick up a few more paychecks before making his retirement official.
Instead he looked better than he has in years. Switching to an orthodox stance and using the jab like he never has before Mir looked relevant again as he made short work of the now TRT-less Antonio Silva.
Mir can look forward to at a couple of more big paydays at least, likely to be on the big pay-per-view events, whilst Bigfoot looks like he should consider hanging up his gloves. Five knockout losses in his last eight fights doesn’t make for pleasant reading.
