Harry Kane has gone from Europa League run-out, to being touted as England’s leading light in the space of half a season, such is the knee-jerk reaction of the footballing world. However, the optimism in Kane is not entirely misplaced. The Tottenham striker has leapt at the chance offered up by Roberto Soldado’s inaccuracy and Emmanuel Adebayor’s inability to give a single fraction of a f***, and now he’s Spurs’ leading man. And he’s carrying them up towards the Champions League again.

As our infographic shows, the young striker has averaged a goal every 105 minutes he has been on the pitch this season, and if you look at his record since he became a regular starter in the Premier League in early November, he has 15 goals in 18 games. It’s no wonder Roy Hodgson looked so happy with himself at the recent FA Cup draw, knowing that Harry Kane could be leading the line for England next month.
The most promising figure to pull out of our stat-busting image is Harry Kane’s shots-to-goals conversion rate. In essence we use the abacus knocking around Power Tower to calculate how deadly players are by looking at the number of goals they get from the number of shots attempted. Kane has had 75 shots in the league this season and his 13 goals give him a very tidy conversion rate of 21.4 per cent.
In fact it’s only marginally shy of Lionel Messi’s conversion rate of 23 per cent, but it gets to a point of spinning statistics when you risk dipping into the ridiculous…
- If you had stuck £5 each-way on Harry Kane to score first every week this season, you’d currently have £56.25 profit in your wallet
Kane is 6/1 to open the scoring when Tottenham take on West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday (4.00pm Sky Sports 1). The striker is 6/1 to score first and continue his incredible run and 17/10 to get on the scoresheet at any time. You might also be tempted to back Kane to score any time and Tottenham to win at a tasty 13/2.
