Andy Gray: A 28/1 Champions League bet to make that drive to five on Friday nice and easy

by David Lyons | April 13, 2015

Another good week from Andy this time round as he manages to pip you lot by a single game. Five correct scoring’snow sees Andy’s lead sit at six points. All that banter with Richard Keys is clearly helping.

So as we stand the e-scores on the e-doors are:

Andy Gray 144 – 138 You* (*you plural)

The game is simples. One point is awarded per correct prediction, regardless of the odds associated with it and as we go, we add them all up to see who is smarter. Well, we probably know who is smarter because none of the Paddy Power customers lost their cushy punditry job for making sexually inappropriate remarks, but we want to see who can give the best Champions League betting tips this week. Once more into the crystal-ball gazing.

Andy’s bets: A Madrid Draw, Juve to win, PSG and Barca Draw, and Bayern to beat Porto – 28/1

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid
Tuesday 14th April, 7.45pm

Cristiano Ronaldo is back scoring goals, and it looks like he and Gareth Bale are back to being best friends. Even Chicharito is amongst the goals!

Andy says:

  • This game won’t be settled in the first leg and I think with the way Simeone sets out his teams, he would be happy with a 0-0 or a score draw.
  • This is a really tight affair even though Atleti have played Real four times this year and beat them four times.
  • But they are playing Real at a time when they are starting to play well.
  • If this game was played a month ago, my money would’ve been on Atletico but…!

Andy’s bets: DRAW I see 0-0 or 1-1,or  possibly Atleti to nick it 1-0, but I’m going with a scoreless or low scoring draw.

Juventus v Monaco
Tuesday 14th April, 7.45pm

Juventus lost at the weekend, and Monaco are much better playing away from home

Andy says:

  • Juve are racing away with the league, and I think their defeat to Parma at the weekend was because they had their eye on this game.
  • I still think Monaco are one of the poorer sides left in this year’s competition.
  • But their defence has been absolutely rock solid. I don’t think a team has scored more than one goal against them in 2015 in the league.
  • Italian teams know all about tight defences so I can see a Juventus win here.

Andy’s bets: JUVENTUS I can see Juve winning this game to nil, possibly 2-0. If Tevez plays, I fancy him to be first goalscorer. Morata, or even Vidal are good shouts for first goal scorer.

PSG v Barcelona
Wednesday 15th April, 7.45pm

PSG are unbeaten in their last 24 games and did manage to beat Barca in the group stages.

Andy says:

  • PSG have to be respected, even if they are going into their first leg without their talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to suspension, and David Luiz who is injured.
  • They are coming off the back of winning the French Cup, in which Cavani got two goals, and so they will be full of confidence.
  • It wouldn’t surprise me if it ended up as a high scoring draw as Barca didn’t play well at the weekend.

Andy’s bets: DRAW: Both teams to score in a 2-2 draw

Porto v Bayern Munich
Wednesday 15th April, 7.45pm

Porto in their best Champions League season since the Mourinho era, but Bayern are in pretty decent form.

Andy says:

  • I think this is the toughest task of them all. Porto are only doing okay, they’re not top of the league but have won their last three out of four in the Portuguese League.
  • But this is a different calibre of player, a whole different level.
  • Porto will give their all, and they would surprise everybody, including myself if they managed to beat Bayern.

Andy’s bets: BAYERN MUNICH
