Winning a 12-fold accumulator is a tough ask. Winning one which includes two draws, teams from four different countries, and has odds of around 2,900/1 is simply staggering. It’s harder to believe than the majority of Nick Clegg’s manifesto, but last night one online Paddy Power punter from London struck gold.
His £5 bet on a 12 leg accumulator came good, and as the wind and rain battered the country on a miserable Wednesday evening, he was pocketing £14,520 of Paddy’s cash.
In the Premier League, Chelsea mounted a second half comeback against Leicester to ensure that leg clicked, while their were easy wins for Real Madrid and Sevilla in La Liga, Roma and Lazio in Serie A, and Wolfsburg in the German Cup. Throw in AC Milan to continue their disastrous form, a thrilling win for Juventus over Fiorentina, and a handful of other shrewd picks and suddenly it all looks very easy.
The only result that ever seemed in doubt was Celta Vigo’s win over Malaga. The home side had dominated the game and attempted 12 shots on goal – but 10 of them were off target! It looked destined to finish goalless and break this plucky punter’s heart, until the 89th minute when Spanish striker Nolito popped up with his third goal in three games to give Celta Vigo the win and secure this monster bet.
Some call it destiny, others will call it a fluke. We call it a smart and ballsy bit of punting. Well done young man, welcome to the Punting Hall of Fame.
