Matt Chapman’s exclusive Royal Ascot tips: Get your teeth in to this juicy 14/1 shot on Wednesday

Matt struck early with Solow yesterday and swaps the fake tan for a top hat and tails to bring us hot tips from day two of Royal Ascot.

by Matt Chapman | June 16, 2015

2.30pm Group 3 Jersey

Often won by a Group 1 horse, and there’s no doubt some classy animals mix it here. It’s a serious drop in class for Ivawood, and he’s going to run huge, although he does have to give weight all round. I like BOSSY GUEST (9/1), who ran huge for Mick Channon when third behind Gleneagles in the Guineas. He’s got plenty of decent form, and he should be bang there under Charles Bishop getting 5lb. A tremendous opportunity for the jockey.

3.05pm Group 2 Queen Mary

Always tricky in the juvenile races with so many open to improvement. I’m taking a chance with the blinkered American raider BRUISED ORANGE (14/1), who has been sent over from America by Wesley Ward. She looked a serious animal when trotting up at Keeneland on her debut and she could be anything.

3.40pm Group 2 Duke of Cambridge

I’m all over INTEGRAL (1/1) here, who gives 2lb and more but is clearly the top rated in the field. Integral was a good fourth in the Lockinge, and has history in this race having won it in 2014. She appears to have every chance.

4.20pm Group 1 Prince of Wales’s

So many foreign raiders that it’s easy for punters to get sucked in by the hype of many of them. But there is no doubt there best horse in the race on ratings is THE GREY GATSBY (6/1), and I’m happy to back him under Jamie Spencer each-way. He’s not always a horse who runs to his best, hence he doesn’t get overloaded with praise, but his serious form is serious, and if he produces his A game he’s got every chance of hitting the frame.

The Grey Gatsby

5.00pm. Royal Hunt Cup

Now this is a test! I’m having two against the field in SPARK PLUG (11/1), who is improving fast, and GABRIAL (20/1), who I tipped at the weekend and ran a cracker at York. The former is trained by Brian Meehan, and looked impressive at Newbury last time. He’s lightly raced and stays well. Gabrial is the opposite in being thoroughly exposed. But he will love a strong pace to run at and is in form.

5.35pm Sandringham

Plenty of possible improvers here, but the one who is already going places is ALWAYS SMILE (5/2), who is unbeten in three races and narrowly scored at Doncaster last time. She’s up 11lb now, but she stays and could just be a Group performer masquerading as a handicapper. I hope she is!
