Three days before his 27th birthday Conor McGregor made good of his promise to stop Chad Mendes for the UFC featherweight interim belt. Even without the champion Jose Aldo the event set all types of lucrative records for the UFC and the fighters delivered one of the greatest cards in the organisation’s history. The last six fights anyway.
By the time McGregor walked out to the unpolished tones of Sinead O’Connor the stadium had been whipped in to a frenzy by the previous five fights. Again the fighters delivered. McGregor survived the biggest test of his career and in doing so answered that bothersome wrestler question by beating the best one in the division.
Here’s the moment he dropped Mendes to take the UFC featherweight interim championship and make his inevitable meeting with Aldo an even bigger event.
And here are the finishes of the rest of his MMA career…barring the very first two fights of which there appears to be no footage available.
