I’ve not hit it big yet at Goodwood this week, but with two days still to go there’s still plenty of time to make Paddy suffer! You hear me Paddy?
Friday starts with the Group 3 Glorious Stakes over 1m4f at 2pm (Desktop | Mobile), and I’m confident this is the day HILLSTAR will bounce back to his best. To be honest he’s been disappointing of late, but if he could come back to the form which saw him third in the 2013 King George he would eat this lot under Olivier Peslier.
Next up is a Group 3 over 1m at 2.35pm (Desktop | Mobile), and the one I like here is CONVEY, who has only landed a Kempton maiden but could just be anything. On paper it’s a huge ask to beat a St James’s Palace Stakes runner-up, but Sir Michael Stoute is no fool and the fact he’s running here suggests this horse is highly regarded.
The big mile event at 3.10pm (Desktop | Mobile) is a nightmare, but the reward will be huge if we get it right. BASEM has done us huge favours so far and I can leave him alone. A draw in stall 11 is very workable, and he only went up 5lb for a success last time and I thought he won comfortably albeit narrowly. Come on Godolphin and James Doyle.
Day 4 ends with the Group 2 King George sprint at 3.45pm (Desktop | Mobile), and this looks for like a handicap than a Pattern race, such is the considerable field. MUTHMIR has a penalty to overcome which won’t be easy, but he’s without doubt the most talented horse in the race for me. A strong gallop should really suit him here and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet. Hopefully he will run a big one for William Haggas and Paul Hanagan. It’s Yeeehaaas we need!
