I’ve had a tough week at Goodwood, that’s for sure, and it’s made me appreciate that this year has been so fantastic for the PP Blog up until now. However, day five of the Glorious meeting is upon us and there’s still time for revenge. You hear me Paddy?
Let’s start with the six furlong sprint at Goodwood at 2.00pm, and the one I want to be on here is ZANETTO, who is gradually coming down the handicap and has a recent good effort at Goodwood to his name. Could go well at a decent price for the old team of Andrew Balding and William Buick.
Next at Goodwood is a one mile four furlong handicap at 2.35pm, and I’m hoping SENRIMA can continue his good run for Brian Meehan. This gelding is up 6lb for a win over one mile six furlong last time but is improving fast.
It’s the feature Group 1 Nassau at Goodwood at 3.10pm, and LEGATISSIMO (15/8) has the chance to make up for an unlucky defeat by Diamonsandrubies last time. The former should have won that day, but should get a stronger pace to run at here. One for Ireland.
Finally at Goodwood it’s the big betting race of the day at 3.45pm, the Stewards’ Cup. Take a chance here with ALGAR LAD (25/1), who should have been closer at York last time but was never placed to challenge. He remains on a mark of 101 for this, and he’s in good form for David O’Meara and Sam James.
I’ve also taken a look at a couple of the races at Newmarket, including the Listed Chalice Stakes at 2.15pm. The one I like here is GRETCHEN, who will find this a lot easier than Royal Ascot and the Irish Oaks for John Gosden. She can bounce back.
Finally, there’s a hugely valuable nursery at Newmarket at 2.50pm, and I’m having a few quid on BLOSSOMTIME, who has been in good form for Charlie Appleby. She’s up to 91 in the ratings now, but Marc Monaghan takes off 3lb which will help.
So best of luck. It’s a tough day once again – we need some Yeeehaaas!
