I thought Tipperary would win the Munster Championship and I thought that Kilkenny would win Leinster and it looks like it’s going that way. I haven’t changed my opinion that Tipperary will win the All-Ireland. At 2/1 they are at a massive price to win the All Ireland.
They went to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, which is a tough place to go and did the job. A home Munster final against Waterford and they were under a lot of pressure to break down the Waterford system, but they ticked that box. I don’t think they played to what they’re capable either.
Last year Galway came down to Thurles were five or six points up and collapsed in the last 15 minutes. Tipperary hit 2-10 to-0-01 in the last 15 minutes and then kicked on and could have won the All-Ireland. If Galway get into that position again I don’t see them collapsing. They are in a much stronger position this year. If you really fancy them to win 9/4 is a massive price.
Tipperary haven’t been out as often as they were last year. Last year they were out every two weeks, but now they’ve had a four or five week layoff. Eamon O’Shea hinted at it earlier in the week that they would go back to the clubs and if you asked him what route they would have like he would have said the front door over the back door.
Galway ,on the other hand, they can blow hot and cold, but the have been showing a continuity that hasn’t been there the last couple of years. They were impressive against Dublin in the second game and they put up a gallant effort against Kilkenny in the Leinster final. They put up a massive score against Cork in the quarter final, but Cork were very, very poor and the backs gave the Galway forwards far too much space. Tipperary have the personnel to get the match ups with the Galway forwards right.
I think Tipperary will win by by four or five points and -3 handicap at 11/10 seems like the best bet. After a quiet Munster final I can see Seamus Callanan driving into it to prove some people wrong and at 7/2 I think he’s a good shout for first goalscorer.
