OMG! York’s opening day provided one of the biggest shocks of the year with Golden Horn getting turned over – so let’s try to hit Paddy where it hurts while his guard is down.
Ladies day starts with a big field for the Doncaster Yearling Sales race over 6f at 1.55pm. Tasleet will be all the rage but PROJECTION is clearly a decent juvenile going places for the quality combination of Roger Charlton and James Doyle. He looked a bit special when winning at Windsor last time and landed a big gamble in the process.
It’s the Group 2 Lowther at 2.30pm, and I can’t wait to see LUMIERE here. I was lucky enough to see this filly on the Middleham gallops last week, and she’s been supplemented for this race. She was a 6l winner of a maiden at Newmarket for Mark Johnston, and could be something very special.
She will have to be mind – this is a hot race.
There’s a 1m handicap at 3.05pm, and I’m all over MUSADDAS with the visor on first time for Saeed bin Suroor and James Doyle once again. This horse looked a hard ride behind Birdman last time, but if the headgear makes the difference he could be a very different horse here. A fine draw is a bonus. The Group 1 feature on the card is the Yorkshire Oaks over 1m4f at 3.40pm.
On the up
I am keeping the faith with Irish Oaks winner COVERT LOVE. She did have the run of the race at the Curragh and this will be harder for Hugo Palmer’s hope. However, there’s no reason why she’s not on the up and the booking again of winning jock Pat Smullen is a bonus. Bring it on Paddy. Hope you hear some Yeeehaaas!
