Punting Hall of Fame: One lucky punter won £38k with a correct score lucky 15 bet

There are lucky people and there are geniuses. Sometimes you need a bit of both to pull this off

by Paddy Power | August 30, 2015

Some people have all the luck in the world. A one pound lucky 15 bet on four correct scores over the weekend has netted a punter £38,000. And it all looks so simple! Easier than confusing Joey Essex in fact. The selections were:

  • Leeds to beat Derby 2-1 at 16/1
  • Arsenal to beat Newcastle 1-0 at 13/2
  • Cardiff to beat Notts Forest 2-1 at 10/1
  • Middlesbrough to beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at 19/1

First of all the sheer cojones it takes to bet on Leeds United to win a game, but to win somewhere they haven’t won in 13 years? That’s a ballsy call. A Chris Wood wonderstrike with two minutes to go started the day of well for our hero. Next up Arsenal v Newcastle at St James Park.

A 1-0 victory was what was required and it’s what was delivered. Aleksandar Mitrovic’s sending off after 15 minutes pointed to an easy Arsenal win, but Tim Krul was in inspired form and Theo Walcott couldn’t hit water standing on a banjo – or whatever that metaphor is. It took a deflected goal from Kieran Gibbs Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to get the 1-0 win.

Next for our brilliant tactician was Cardiff’s trip to Nottingham Forest. A 2-1 victory was on the cards for the Welshmen. Kenwyne Jones and Joe Mason duly delivered in an assured victory. Three from four surely our magic man must have been thinking that his time was now. Kicking off at the same time as the Forest-Cardiff game was the last selection of the now treasured slip.

Middlesbrough traveled to Hillsborough not knowing the what their game meant for one punter. Goals from Adam Reach, Diego Fabbrini and an 86th minute goal from Christian Stuani to get the 3-1 win for Boro. The drinks will surely be flowing wherever this hero resides. A drink to be sent Mr. Stuani’s way perhaps?

Congratulations sir. I know you’ve probably robbed us of several work night’s out and possibly our Christmas bonuses, but we can only applaud punting like that. If this blog could handle emojis, we’d be using several of the hands clapping one here.
