We’d a nice start at Dundalk last Friday with a 12/1 treble in the opening three races and the reverse forecast in the finale so hopefully the form can stand up again tonight at the all-weather track.
I’ve a few runners on the card this time and Artytype in the 5.35pm is a horse I always liked. I think he’ll progress from his Curragh run behind Restive but Michael Mulvaney’s Somebodytoldme is rated 80 and sets the standard.
The 6.05pm is all about the newcomers. The ones that have run look pretty exposed so Dermot Weld’s LOVE IN THE SUN and Michael Halford’s Embiyra could hold the key. I’d just favour the former.
Pat Smullen got off Jolyne at Roscommon and said to give her another try on the all-weather in the 6.35pm. She could have got stuck in the mud there and the return to the sand could help her press for the places. Political Policy will be popular after winning here last Friday but David Marnane’s KODIAC’S BACK also won here last month and could still be well handicapped.
STROLL PATROL ran very well at the Curragh when fourth to Moviesta in a better race than this after winning at HQ in July. I’d love to get another win for her this season and the 7.05pm looks an ideal opportunity. There’s a couple of consistent performers in there like Balmont Mast and Russian Soul while Eisenhower reappears after a break and won over 5f at Cork in April.
But if Stroll Patrol runs up to her best she’d have every chance at the weights.
There’s a very disappointing turn out for the Group 3 Diamond Stakes and PANAMA HAT is the clear top-rated and won a Premier Handicap here before over 10f. The fact that he’s a front-runner should help him avoid any tactical messing that these three-runner races can throw up.
Chicago Dancer has been disappointing so we are trying her over 1m 4f in the (8.35pm). I thought she had ability but hasn’t fully shown it yet. The top-weight WHATEVER IT TAKES generally runs to his handicap mark and is capable of picking up a race in this type of race.
If you hadn’t had a winner by now you’d be struggling to get it in the last (9.05pm). You wouldn’t think John Oxx is keeping a three-year-old for so long if he didn’t think he could pick up a race so BALLERINA ROSE is a speculative pick with no obvious stand-out performer in the field.
