It can’t have been easy to pick a Monday night game more mundane than the International break but true to form Sky’s live MNF has thrown up Swansea v Stoke.
The Swans started the season like a Lamborghini Gallardo – but since beating ‘title challengers’ Manchester United 2-1 (from a goal down) they’ve looked more like a not entirely emission-free VW from the mid-90s.
No win in four games is Garry Monk’s side’s worst run since January but Andre Ayew has three goals and an assist in his last four games at the Liberty Stadium. Backing him as an anytime goalscorer could be the play.
Stoke were a little slower out of the traps and it took the Potters seven games to pick up their first win. They’ve since gone four games unbeaten in all competitions and have posted back-to-back Premier League wins against Bournemouth (2-1) and away to Aston Villa (0-1).
But it’s the head-to-head clashes between these contrasting sides that might just deliver a value punt on Monday night.
• Of the 16 league games played since 1990 the Swans have won seven scoring two goals in six of those.
• Swansea are unbeaten at home this season with two wins and two draws.
• Of their eight home games they’ve only lost once to Stoke since 1990.
The Swans have won three of the eight Premier League games between the sides at the Liberty Stadium by a two-goal margin and are 13/1 to do it again on Monday night.
But if you like to roll at bigger prices a Paddy Power scorecast on Ayew to score first in a 2-0 win for Swansea is a tempting 40/1 to get your week off to a flyer.
