There’s just something about Cheltenham that makes it better than all other jumps fixtures in the UK, and I can’t wait for Friday’s action at the premier National Hunt venue.
Of course there’s some big betting heats tomorrow for us to get stuck into, and I’ll be back for all of that, but there are four decent events Friday for us to try and take a few quid off Paddy.
Let’s start with the handicap hurdle over an extended 2m at 1.10pm, and the one I like here is OLOFI He’s going to be a fair price but looks absolutely chucked in on old form off a mark of 127. This might just be the day he bounces back to his best for Tom George.
The Grade 3 handicap chase over 3m 2f sees SAUSALITO SUNRISE return to the scene of his course win last month. He got an extra 6lb for winning then but is one of the few in this race who is still improving. He looked a strong stayer and should go well again for Philip Hobbs.
The Cross-country chase is always a great spectacle and I’m all over ON HIS OWN . Willie Mullins’ runner chased home Lord Windermere in the Gold Cup two seasons ago and if getting his act together has that bit of class to excel in this sphere.
Finally, it’s worth having a few quid each-way on the improver MONBEG GOLD in the 3m handicap hurdle. He’s up 11lb for a recent win but absolutely hacked up that day. He’s at the right end of the handicap too for Jonjo O’Neill.
It’s a tricky old card – but if one of these pops in – we’ll have a tasty result. You hear me Paddy? Yeeehaaa!
