Norwich v Everton: Romelu Lukaku is Superman on Merseyside, and is well worth backing at 5/1

How Romelu Lukaku has outscored Drogba, Rooney and Ronaldo in his first 150 hours of Premier League football, and is firing Everton towards the top four

by Josh Powell | December 10, 2015

Romelu Lukaku will pass 150 hours of Premier League football when he takes the field against Norwich on Saturday, and in that time he has a jaw-dropping 53 goals. That’s an average of a goal every 169 minutes he’s on the pitch. To put that into some further mind-blowing context, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo all managed fewer goals in their first 150 hours of Premier League football – while Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, a striker who made his top flight debut almost nine years ago, still hasn’t even made it to 150 hours of Premier League action. We know which striker we’d prefer…

Throw the fact that the Belgian striker is just 22 years old into our Lukaku-loving cocktail, and those numbers become even more impressive. While most 22-year-old lads are attempting to climb the social ladder by necking WKDs, Lukaku is nearing the top of the Premier League tree by demolishing opposition defences. Everton’s very own superman has racked up 36 league goals since arriving at Goodison Park in 2013. They’ve come from a total of 280 shots, giving the star striker a conversion rate of 13 per cent. When you exclude any attempts he’s had from outside the box, his conversion rate goes up to a staggering 20 per cent – showing he’s as dangerous in the area as a wet fart in fresh white pants.

Lukaku has found the net in the last six consecutive games in all competitions, and can boast of nine goals in his last nine league games. It’s no coincidence that his upturn in form has resulted in Everton losing just two of their 11 games since September 28. While all eyes have been on Jamie Vardy breaking the record, Lukaku has bagged 11 goals himself to sit in second place on the goalscorers chart.

The Toffees go into their game with Norwich on Saturday morning knowing that a victory would take them to sixth, and just four points off a Champions League spot for a time at least. Norwich on the other hand come into the game with just six points from the last possible 30 – their 1-0 win over Swansea their only league victory in three months.

It makes sense therefore to take a punt on Romelu Lukaku to continue his streak and bag the opening goal against the Canaries at – while he’s a shot to score anytime if you are a tad more cautious. If that is the case however, and 7/5 is a little too skinny for your liking, consider Lukaku to score at anytime and Everton to win at a tempting .

Everton’s very own superman looks set to continue his hot streak. And there’s very little chance of Norwich turning out to be Lukaku’s kryptonite…
