What a cracking Saturday ahead, and I’m primed for action. So Paddy had better watch out! You hear me Paddy?
Let’s get straight into the Cheltenham action, and the Caviar Gold Cup is at 1.50pm, and features five of the first six home in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month.
I tipped up Buywise then and he was desperately unlucky, but he’s up 4lb now and one to take on.
The one I like is VILLAGE VIC who is in tremendous form and gets in right at the bottom of the weights for Richard Johnson and trainer Philip Hobbs. He was a decent hurdler, being beaten less than 3l by The New One on one occasion, and might just beat some more experienced rivals.
Later on the card there’s a Grade 2 novices’ hurdle (2.25pm), although none of these look Festival material next March. NET WORK ROUGE has been chasing already, and would not usually be a selection in this type of affair. However, he’s improving fast and can give Kim Bailey a big win.
I’m all over PEACE AND CO for Nicky Henderson in the International Hurdle (3pm) and he simply has to win if he’s to be considered a live Champion Hurdle prospect. He’s the best on ratings and has the most improvement to come.
Finally at Cheltenham we’ve got a tough handicap hurdle at 3.35pm and I’m having a few quid each-way on topweight THE GOVANESS . She’s beaten a few of these in the past but is worse off at the weights admittedly, but she’s got a bit of class for Dr. Richard Newland.
I’ve also taken a look at a couple of races up at Doncaster. The Grade 2 Summit Hurdle at 2.05pm should go to the John Ferguson newcomer ROBERTSTOWN . He looked just the type for a race like this when running on the Flat in Ireland.
SOUTHFIELD ROYALE looked really good for Neil Mulholland last time and I expect another big show from him in the Grade 2 December Novices’ Chase at 2.40pm.
