Regardless of how things pan out against Jose Aldo the next opponent for Conor McGregor may well have been in action on Friday night.
If he beats Aldo then it seems only the cruelest of promoters would deny Frankie Edgar another shot at the gold. Should McGregor fail to unify the featherweight championship belts then a rematch with Chad Mendes makes sense. Though let’s not forget about Max Holloway. We’ll have a clearer view of things come Sunday morning.
For now let’s enjoy Edgar’s finish of Mendes at the TUF Finale which took place in the vaguely hipster sounding The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. After controlling the early exchanges the New York native landed a right-left combination which saw Mendes crumple to the floor and the referee step in to wave the fight off 2:28 in to the first round.
Former lightweight champion Edgar is on a five fight winning streak since losing his title challenge against Jose Aldo. He now looks set for another tilt at the gold the question is whose waist will it be wrapped around after UFC 194?
