What a Boxing Day it was, but in this game it’s all about looking forward when it comes to winners, and that’s what this blog is all about. You hear me Paddy?
So let’s crack on with two corking cards at Kempton and Leopardstown.. It’s the Grade 2 Wayward Lad novices’ chase at 1.25pm, and I’m confident VANITEUX will put up a huge display for Nicky Henderson. He will love the strong gallop Ar Mad will set and can come through late to win.
The Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase is next and if SPRINTER SACRE is truly back to his best form he will provide Henderson with a quick double. He put up a huge effort at Cheltenham 42 days ago and this is his for the taking.
There’s a tricky handicap chase over 3m at 2.45pm, and the one I’m going to have a few quid on eachway is NED STARK . The selection has been well beaten this season, including in the Hennessy last time. But he is back to his last winning mark of 137 and if there is any hope he should run well here for Alan King.
The 3.10pm at the track is a mares’ hurdle over an extended 3m. Take a chance here with CANNON FODDER , who stays well for Sheena West. It’s possible this mare might want better ground, but I’ll take the risk.
There’s some good stuff at Chelmsford on Attheraces on Sunday, and an interesting 5f dash at 2.15pm. MEADWAY was an impressive winner for Bryan Smart last time and despite topweight will take all the stopping once again.
Finally, at 2.50pm check out the 1m handicap. I like ONE PEKAN for Roger Varian with the hood on.
He’s not run that well the last three efforts, but prior to that had run a good second at this track and while only fifth last time was not beaten far.
Leopardstown, Sunday 28th
Paddy has shelled out a few quid with some monster sponsorship at the Dublin track although in typical Paddy fashion no invite for yours truly!
The Grade 1 2m 1f chase at 1.15pm features Un de Sceaux , who won’t be a betting proposition but should take all the beating as he makes his seasonal bow on the road to the Champion Chase.
The Grade 1 Champions Novice Hurdle is more interesting for having a bet, and I like BACHASSON here who really should have beaten Long Dog last time. I think he could be the value.
Paddy pays five places in the big chase at 2.55pm – so make him pay! I will risk MY MURPHY who ran all right on the seasonal debut and stays and jumps. Robbie Power should get a good ride and was in good form yesterday and had a nice winner.
So best of luck. There’s plenty to get stuck into. Including Paddy. Yeeehaaa!
