While Cheltenham is just over four weeks away for jumps fans – the all-weather Championship at Lingfield on Good Friday sneaks up soon after. But at the end of this month we have the and I might have a lively one for the Winter Derby.
Champion British champion Flat trainer John Gosden has a proven Group One performer in FURIA CRUZADA who has been running in South America.
The 8/1 about could be a huge price come the February 27 feature.
Enzani, Dundalk, 6.30pm
John McConnell’s runner caught the eye on return over 10f last week. He wasn’t knocked about he made headway from hands and heels ride to finish fourth at 33-1. He’s nothing like that price tonight but he is the only one still open to improvement in the line-up.
The Kid, Wolverhampton, 7.15pm
John Quinn’s runner bumped into a well-handicapped runner in Tower Power here over a mile and a half the last time. He stays well so the return to 1m 5f is a positive. Although he has been nudged up 2lb by the handicapper but this is only his second try on the all-weather so could improve for his debut.
Captain Joy, Dundalk, 8pm
Tracey Collins’ runner looks a real good sort and is sure to have the All-Weather finals at Lingfield on Good Friday, March 25th in his sights again. Won a fast-track qualifier there last season and then was third in the final beaten by only half a length behind the winner Grey Mirage.
He has seven wins from 15 starts on the all-weather and can make it eight tonight. It looks a match for second between Political Party Bishan Bedi.
Malvesi, Wolverhampton, 8.15pm
Went missing-in-action from November 9, 2011 until turning up in mid-January this term. He had shown next to nothing for Ann Duffield then but switched to Mark Johnston and has had two runs in 10 days.
Still in the bargain-basement end of the handicap and looks like he could be on the upgrade. A potential winner-in-waiting tonight.
