Dynamo Kiev v Man City
It’s never easy going to the Ukraine and trying to get a result. It could be even tougher given Dynamo Kiev have won their last six games on the bounce. But the good thing, the very good thing, is they haven’t played a competitive match since the 9th of December because of their winter break.
I’m sure they’ve played a few games in preparation but there’s nothing like playing football at this level, you can’t just come in and start playing again so that’s in City’s favour. I think Pellegrini’s side can get a draw in Kiev.
The best players tend to come to the fore in European football so you’ll be looking to Sergio Aguero as your number one man with maybe an eye on Yaya Toure if he steps up. For Kiev I’d be looking at Andriy Yarmelenko who hit three in his last four games before the winter break.
PSV Eindhoven v Atletico Madrid
Dutch football isn’t great at the moment and if I’m looking at a bet here I’m looking at an away win. Atletico Madrid are playing really well this season, splitting the two big teams in La Liga. Yes PSV are currently top of the Eredivisie but that’s not one of the top leagues in Europe these days. They are in good form having won their last eight games in-a-row but I think Atletico Madrid are made of sterner stuff and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them nick this game 1-0.
